Pakistan gets billions?

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that we are cutting the salaries of teachers in this country because of our trillion dollar deficit but we are still sending billions of dollars to Pakistan every year. I mean, really, what does a country have to do to be cut off from our largesse? Maybe our teachers should start protecting terrorists and then the feds would happily pay them.

The case against tequilaI

I was watching tv the other night while sipping a sugar free margarita. The commercial came on and I found myself intensely interested in a car ad. I watched from start to finish with fascination.

I think that says all that needs to be said about why you shouldn’t drink tequila.

Mom taught me not to cheer anyone’s death

My first memory of my mom involves standing in the living room when I was six and asking who the man sleeping with all the flowers in the newspaper picture was. She said he was a bad man who had hurt a lot of people in Russia and now he was dead. I must have said something like “Good” or “Yea!” or given some other sign of happiness at his death. She told me in no uncertain terms that we do not cheer the death of others, no matter how horrible we think they were.

I thought of that last

You pray your dog is not THAT dumb

I recently replaced the sliding glass doors leading to my back porch with French doors. When my dog Blondie went out the sliding doors, she exited on the right. But with the French doors, it’s the one on the left that opens first. So now she comes up the stairs and sits patiently on the porch in front of the wrong door. And I open the other side and stand there to let her in. And she looks at me with some interest and then returns her intent gaze to the door in front of her, waiting for it to

Getting older

Remember when you were young and hated getting carded if you wanted a drink. Well, now when they ask for proof that you are actually old enough for the senior discount, you find yourself smiling a lot.

The Royal Wedding

I watched it on DVR… not even for royalty can I either stay up that late or get up that early. Two things struck me the most about it. One, Prince William actually looked like he was very in love with his bride and couldn’t quite believe his good luck in getting to marry her. Every time he looked at her, you could see an expression of true joy. Given his family’s history, that’s very nice.

The second thing that really struck me was the sense of majesty and history embodied in the ceremony. Marriage tends to be a throw

Donald Trump… racist?

When he starts to question how Obama made it through school, he sure sounds like a racist. I never heard anyone asking George Bush to show his school transcripts… and god knows that George Bush having anything beyond a GED boggles the imagination. I realize this whole presidential run thing is just to build up the final episode of his TV show but this is going too far. He has not only made a mockery of an election process that doesn’t need any help looking silly, but now he is making racist remarks to try to get someone, anyone, interested

Possibly the most idiotic thing ever said to me

I was speaking with a “friend” recently who is part of the birther movement. When I pointed out that Obama had released a copy of his certificate of live birth from Hawaii, the birther responded thusly, “That’s a certificate of live birth – not a birth certificate”.
