Memorial Day

As a child of the sixties who lost a dear friend to the war in Vietnam, this has always been a bittersweet day for me. Now that my godchild has married a dedicated Navy EOD person, I have become even more acutely aware of how precious these young men and women are who put on a uniform and march in whatever direction those old men in Washington send them. Their sense of honor and dedication to duty is amazing. Remembering those who marched out to battle to never return is something we should do a lot more often than once a year.

If only those old men in Washington had to go into battle instead, I think perhaps we would not have so many fallen heroes to remember today.
