As of August 1, an apparently insane individual will be allowed to post online the directions for printing your own gun at home on your 3D printer.
Yep. No more waiting in those long lines at the gun store. No more waking up in the middle of the night because you forgot to print a dozen for your kid’s class the next day. No more last minute panic because you forgot to buy a secret Santa gift. And if someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night… well, given an hour or so to print a gun, you will blast their asses off.
What in the hell is wrong with us? What is this obsession with guns? You can buy them with barely a legal driver’s license in just about any state in the union. An appeals court has just upheld the right to wear a gun in public. We have politicians claiming they were duped into saying out loud that 3 year olds should be armed to protect themselves at school. (Seriously, what could go wrong?)
I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel safer when I see someone with an assault rifle slung over their shoulder while they’re getting their morning latte. In fact, given the carnage “legal” gun owners have caused in this country, when I see someone open carrying, my first instinct is to go somewhere else. Or forget that morning latte. Because I can survive a morning without coffee. Don’t know if I could survive a gunshot wound.
This makes me so sad. Are we really that frightened of each other? Or has the NRA, hand in hand with gun manufacturers, deliberately conducted a campaign of fear to sell their products of death? If I had to guess, I’d guess it was more the latter than the former.
