The middle one graduates from college today. The oldest one, my godchild, the one who lights my heart and soul so easily, is here to cheer her sisters on. Just seeing these three wonderful young ladies together tells me that one, their mom did one helluva job raising them and two…ok, ok, dad helped but mostly three, the world will be in good hands.
Graduations continue
The last of my Mushovic girls graduates from high school and suddenly that day that her mom and I thought was so impossibly far away as to not be real, had raced up and bit us in the butt. Now comes the fun part. Paying for college.
Where is Lovey when I need her
According to an article in the June 6 Daily News, “Your dog or cat can win money, a year’s supply of pricey pet food and free airline tickets to stay at an upscale, pet-friendly hotel’ by entering Hill’s 2006 National PetFit Challenge.” In essence, a weight loss competition for your perhaps slightly puffy pooch or tubby tabby.
And I think to myself, “Where is my Lovey when I need her?”
Lovey was a dog who adopted me when I first moved to Barrow. She lived with me through my marriage, a variety of questionable relationships, and the presence of way
Sherie as traveling companion
My friend Sherie, ex sister-in-law, current buddy, forever insane person, is right up there with my sister as the best person in the world to do a road trip with. She filled the car with fruit, beef jerky and popcorn before she even picked me up at the airport. It’s no wonder we’ve always remained so close. Well, that and because if she crosses me, I can always tell the duck soup story on her.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary Kenab, Utah
There is simply no better place to spend a day or your whole vacation. When I die, I want to go to animal heaven. People just don’t do that much for me.
Seriously…
I know it’s a red eye flight but would it kill them to serve some pretzels? My Aunt Louise wouldn’t drive with me from NYC to Atlantic City without stopping for a sandwish even when we left at midnight after I got off shift and even after she fed me before we left her place. Hmmmm, could there be an answer to my food issues in that last statement?
How does anyone sleep on planes
Seriously, who are these people that get on a plane and are snoring by the time the plane hits the taxiway? Do they not understand god meant us to sleep lying down comfortably in our bed and not sitting up with 200 other people inhaling their exhale?
By the time you read this
I will hopefully be in San Diego waiting for my connecting flight to Tucson. God how I hate night flights. God how I hate flying period during the summer. God how I hate fliying period anymore. It’s a horrible experience and there is little other than strong drugs – that I don’t have – that can make it more pleasant.
Here’s what’s fun about being old
Not a damn thing.
For some kids, graduation has a different meaning
It’s graduation season, a time of life changes for young people and their parents. I recently went to South’s graduation to watch a very special young man in my life graduate into what I fully expect to be a productive, contributing adulthood…even if his parents are a little nervous about that possibility right now. Senioritis can be a difficult disease for parents to live through.
Unfortunately, the kids I work with rarely have the kind of graduations that entail getting dressed up and notifying the relatives. They do have graduations. But it’s just not the same when you are graduating
