Because until very recently there was a business in Fairbanks called Art, Arms and Ammo. It unfortunately ran into some difficulty when the owner was arrested for allegedly hiring someone to kill someone else.
But that should not detract from the whimsy and poetry of the name. I would have loved to have seen the Art.
Oops!
Been doing this for twelve years and this is the first time I didn’t have an entry in by early morning. Old age is a true bitch.
One of the joys of being fat
You have hard, thick bones that don’t break easily. Thank god. If you live in Alaska during the winter, this is an especially important protective mechanism. Though sanding the driveway would probably make more sense.
The mentally ill as scapegoats
I followed the saga of Schaeffer Cox and Lonnie and Karen Vernon as it played out from pleadings to trials to sentencing. It was a story that had something for everyone, from the Joe Miller/DropZone/undercover informant angle to the rather bizarre 2-4-1 formula of vengeance.
Their story is a depressingly familiar one. Slightly paranoid personality with good sales pitch pulls in slightly dim followers on a path that only they could not see was going to lead to total destruction – except they were the ones destroyed, not the government.
What was sad was that this case once again brought
Given
Given that at night my dogs can go for 12 hours without needing to go outside to relieve themselves, I have to assume the messes I find on my carpet when I return from even the briefest of car rides without them are more a statement of attitude than necessity.
Me and Joe the Waterman

In our hearts, he will always be Joe the Waterman. Now get well quickly. Your mom is scary when you’re not around.

Nick and the swan

When Nick first started volunteering at Bird TLC, most of the birds aside from redpolls were bigger than he was. But he was brave and hung in there. Now he holds swans. Touching something this wild and beautiful is like touching a piece of god. IT’s Nick’s reward for all those years when the eagles outweighed him but he never gave up.

Ulu, the Northern Hawk Owl

Ulu may be small but his heart is mighty. As one of Bird TLC’s ed birds, he brings the wild to you. Just don’t try to touch his mice. You don’t mess with Ulu’s meals.

When it comes to fashion and shopping in Alaska
Here in Alaska, we are not so much current on trends and fashions as we are thrilled to find a store where we can buy our groceries, clothes, furniture and accessories without going out in the cold and re-parking the car in yet another lot. As my sister will gladly explain to you, if it weren’t for bad fashion, Alaska would have no fashion sense at all. That’s why they had to buy Sarah Palin all those new clothes when she was campaigning.
