Success

My sister is such a trooper. She never once flinched on our shopping trip – even when I stopped to look at something I thought might be nice but caused her pain. It’s probably not something we should do all the time if we value our relationship, but those times when occasion calls for me to look dignified, she’s the one I turn to.

Can’t wait until I’m home and I can throw on an old sweatshirt, remove the bra and let the girls have their way with gravity. Dignified is a look I can only pull off for so

The joys of traveling with old friends

If you are on vacation and you get sick or hurt any part of your body, old and aging friends will have pain meds, ointments, stomach pills and general relaxation medication in their toiletry case. There is nothing they can’t cure or hold at bay until you’ve played all the penny slots.

Those oxygen masks

The airlines safety instructions say to put the mask over your nose and mouth, pull the tubing to get the oxygen flowing and then breathe normally.

Here’s the thing. If those oxygen masks fall out of those compartments and I need to use one, the last thing I will be doing is breathing normally. I’ll be the old lady on the plane hyperventilating and screaming. Just try to ignore me.

For conservatives, interest wanes when baby is expelled from birth canal

Here’s where I get confused.  Conservatives seem to find all life extremely sacred, to the point of interfering with a woman and her doctor during the most private of moments. One conservative state has passed a law that from the moment of conception, an embryo has all the rights of a human being, thus using government to regulate a woman’s reproductive life. Yet these same conservatives simultaneously claim to want government regulation out of their lives. They also apparently want every program that helps the children they insist be born, cut.

Here in Alaska, Representative Wes Keller held up a

It’s not all that unusual

Poor Alisha Silverstone (Silverpoon? Who the heck is she anyway?) was seen on camera pre-chewing her baby’s food and the reaction to this sight was general horror on the part of the American public. Well folks, I hate to tell you this, but Gerber’s has not always existed. There was a time when moms had to make their own baby food for their little ones. And pre-chewing the food for them is an ancient and honorable custom. it’s one I watched in action many time in Barrow when moms wanted their babies to taste their traditional foods like whale or

Pity me

I am flying from Vegas to the East Coast to visit family today. That means I will spend the day being subjected to what passes for polite air travel in today’s world. Sigh… the feel up by the TSA is the only thing that gets me into an airport nowadays… that and the fact that getting from Alaska to anywhere either involves a one week car ride to just get as far as the lower 48 or getting on a plane. Goodbye dignity. Hello airport.
