You’re never too old to be stupid

Based on the events of the past weekend, I would have to say that it is a given that we are never too old to be stupid. We might get wise enough to do things that mitigate our stupidity, like overnighting at a friend’s house after an evening of margaritas rather than trying to drive home, but we apparently are not wise enough to figure out that those margaritas were not quite what was expected.

Let me start at the beginning, such as my pounding head can remember. I have never been a drinker. Despite growing up in a home

I really do give up

The only carpeting left in the house is on the stairs so the dogs don’t kill themselves sliding down them. So why is it, with puppy pads all but covering every other surface in the house, Snowy chooses to poop in the middle of the night on the stair landing… just where my foot would go as I came down to let them out in the morning if I wasn’t smart enough to check before I stepped. It’s a good thing he’s so damn cute!

Frozen mice

When you volunteer at Bird TLC here in Anchorage, and especially if you are a caretaker for one of their many education birds that like to eat little dead things, you sometimes find yourself walking around with frozen mice in your pockets as you get ready to go feed the bird.  You should not accidentally pull the frozen mouse out of your pocket to get to the tissue you need for your runny nose while in the company of friends and family who do not also volunteer there. They may not understand.

Happy Birthday Baby Sister!

And you’ll always be my baby sister no matter how grey you get and how many wrinkles appear… not that any are… well, not that you can really see unless you look closely… and that hair dye is doing a great job for the head…

Anyhow, you’ll always be young at heart and that must count for something.

Not something I ordinarily do but…

I had a great experience with a carpet cleaning company here in Anchorage named Thermax Carpet Care LLC. They not only cleaned what little carpet I have left in my house after removing most of it because of animal traffic, but called to let me know that they didn’t think cleaning my area rug was worth what it was going to cost me. Imagine a company so honest they called before costing me a huge sum of money that they could have just pocketed.

Anyhow, if you want an honest carpet cleaning company, I highly recommend them. You can find

Show me the person

Show me the person who doesn’t immediately rip off and devour the crispy wings from their store bought roasted chicken before anyone else in the family can get to them and I’ll show you a person I probably wouldn’t want as a friend.

Traditions

If you’ve lived in Anchorage for even a short period of time and have not yet gone to the Greek Festival held every year at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, you are missing one of Anchorage’s best moments. And I’m not just talking about the dessert tent, though that alone could occupy a full page of superlatives.

I go with friends each year who understand that first we have to stop at the dessert tent before all the best pastries are gone and then we go eat the wonderful Greek dinners, salads, gyros, etc. available from cooks who clearly

Sheldon’s coming soon

The Big Bang Theory has resumed taping. Sheldon (or as we who are his intimates like to call him – Shelly) will soon be back in our homes every Thursday night so that those of us who are completely, unapologetically and forever in love with him will soon have more than reruns to sustain us. Can I get a Hallelujah!

Clearly size is not the ultimate arbiter

image

Snowy may be smaller in size but notice that the bigger dog follows him in the hope of figuring out how he won all the toys yesterday.

Oh yeah, and I’m mostly doing this to annoy my cousin Joe…. ok, I may have somewhere between 14 and 60 cousin Joe’s but he knows which one I mean.
