Why doesn’t Begich just admit he’s a Republican and stop pretending he’s a Dem? I mean, how much further up the ass of the Republican elephant can he possibly squeeze his head before admitting the obvious?
We read and hear about bombings in the middle East on a daily basis. A wedding shattered by a suicide bomber. A church service. Even a funeral for someone killed by a bomb can get bombed. Given the outpouring of grief we experienced over the Boston bombing, I have to wonder what amount of pent up grief and rage exists in those countries where bombings are a daily fact of life.
I look out at my backyard and see a solid mass of black sunflower seeds that have built up over the winter as I fed the redpolls and robins and with each inch of crap uncovered, I know spring is advancing.

Trying to give a family health history is always a challenge. In my family, the one thing we know for sure is that diabetes and heart disease are our personal choice by gene. Or, at least, we think they are. We know for sure about the diabetes because that’s been diagnosed multiple times. The heart thing is trickier. A lot of my relatives died by keeling over one day or by not waking up one morning. My family saw no reason for them to go to the hospital at that point because… well, they were dead. What use was a
The only difference between our “Democratic” senator Mark Begich and our “Republican” senator Lisa Murkowski is how they spell their party’s name. Both belong to the same party, the party owned by the NRA. Their negative votes on background checks for gun purchasing is simply shameful. If they glanced around, they would find they are living in the pocket of the NRA and that is not where most Americans live nowadays. I hope the next time we vote in this state, we keep this in mind and vote for a candidate with some comprehension of gun violence that is not
The young golden eagle that Bird TLC has held at the flight center since last fall is now ready to be released.
Please join us at Palmer Hay Flats Cottonwood Creek Trailhead this Saturday, April 20th at 12:30 pm to watch him return to his home in the sky.
In case of poor weather, we will reschedule for Sunday.
In a world far, far, far away from today, two girls became best friends as they clung together through 12 years of Catholic school and growing up as nerds. One of those girls became a teacher. Now, after teaching for almost 40 years, she finally has a class in which she has two girls who have the same names as those little girls from so long ago.
Meet Grace and Elise, 2010. Trust me when I tell you that they are way more cool than the originals ever were.
Last year, I lost a dear friend way, way too early in her life. She was one of those people who made the world a better place just by being in it. This picture shows her daughter Aubie (opening the door) and her partner Kim (on top of the table) releasing a rehabilitated eagle last week down near Portage. That’s her grandson in my arms.
Since Dr. Scott, founder of Bird TLC, always said that his tribe believed that eagles carried the souls of the departed to heaven on their wings, we decided to send Deborah on the ride of
