Some days you just need a smile mixed with a little drool to put all the brouhaha of a political election into perspective. I’d vote for Joey for President any day.

A long, long, long, long time ago
In a world far, far, far away from today, two girls became best friends as they clung together through 12 years of Catholic school and growing up as nerds. One of those girls became a teacher. Now, after teaching for almost 40 years, she finally has a class in which she has two girls who have the same names as those little girls from so long ago.
Meet Grace and Elise, 2010. Trust me when I tell you that they are way more cool than the originals ever were.
On the wings of an eagle
Last year, I lost a dear friend way, way too early in her life. She was one of those people who made the world a better place just by being in it. This picture shows her daughter Aubie (opening the door) and her partner Kim (on top of the table) releasing a rehabilitated eagle last week down near Portage. That’s her grandson in my arms.
Since Dr. Scott, founder of Bird TLC, always said that his tribe believed that eagles carried the souls of the departed to heaven on their wings, we decided to send Deborah on the ride of
A belated birthday wish
Yesterday my kid sister Judy got older than I ever thought she would. And still she dreams of actually, someday when she’s all grown up, having an ass. Alas, the Sereni curse is to have none. Joe and mom in Hawaii
All it took to get this picture from Aaka was to mention how the only person she was taking pictures of in Hawaii was her grandson. So here’s her daughter Greta and Greta’s son Little Joe. Sorry, Aapa, you’ll apparently just have to wait a little longer for your turn.
Joey discovers Hawaii
His roots may be in the Arctic, but this little Eskimo boy has discovered the joy of heat, sand and water that doesn’t have ice in it. I think Joe gives Hawaii his official stamp of approval.
Here is why Alaska is the most amazing place to live
This was taken by friends from their kitchen window. It’s a lynx that was cutting through their front yard early one morning. How many of you can get up in the morning, look out your window and see nature being nature in the wild and then hop in your car and be having a take-out latte ten minutes later? God I love this state.
